Bug Tick Repellent

Lint roller and essential oil
In order to use this tip, you will need a roller and some essential oils. The lint roller should use adhesive layers. Take it with you when you’re going outside and roll it on your clothing every once in a while. You might be surprised with what you pick up in a very short amount of time.
Adding some essential oil may help to keep the ticks from climbing on you while you are outside. Spray the essential oil on your clothing and rub it into your skin and the ticks may just stay away. It also works for mosquitoes and black flies. It’s a good alternative to insect repellent and reduces your chemical exposure.
Here are 5 essential oils that repel bugs.
1. Lavender – This smells sweet to us but bugs absolutely hate it. It works on mosquitoes, flies and other insects.
2. PennyRoyal – this is a member of the mint family and it is toxic to insects.
3. Lemongrass – This essential oil comes from tropical lemongrass and has a citrusy sent. It is a natural flea and tick repellent and can be sprayed directly on the skin.
4. Eucalyptus – use this alone or along with citronella oil to keep bugs away. According to the Journal of medical entomology, Eucalyptus extract can reduce tick bites and infections.
5. Lemon – some lemon essential oil can work against fleas and other bugs. Slightly dilute it and spray it on your clothing and skin.

Fill medium pot ½ full of water. Put a glass pyrex bowl in water and add oils and beeswax (I used microwave, a few seconds at a time). Once beeswax is melted, remove from heat, cool slightly, and add oil. Pour into a 4 oz jar.

No-Fluoride Toothpaste

Note: After making and using this, now I read about how NO toothpaste is good for your teeth. Just a little salt and brushing should do it. Can't quite make myself work on that.
Ingredients
3 Tbsp. baking soda
Toothpaste front and center.
Citrus body butter to left.
Deodorant to the right.
1 Tbsp. finely ground sea salt (mild antibacterial, whitener and good for the gums) (I thought this was too much - next time I'll only use a teaspoon.)
A few drops peppermint, spearmint, anise, clove or cinnamon bark essential oil, according to the taste you want (be sparing, they are very strong - I used about 4 drops peppermint, and one or two drops Thieves - Youngliving.com)
1 tsp. xylitol or a few drops of liquid stevia (optional but highly recommended; xylitol helps prevent tooth decay naturally)
2 Tbsp. coconut oil, softened but not liquified

Grind sea salt in a small coffee grinder, if needed, to make as powdery as possible.
Mix all ingredients except the coconut oil to taste. You can stop at this stage and use this as a tooth powder if you wish.  Mix in a teaspoon of coconut oil at a time until you find the right consistency for your paste. Put into a small, sealable jar or squeezable container and keep in a relatively cool place. Brush. I thought this tasted awfully salty.

I want to try this one soon:

Using three of the 3 most effective and common essential oils for oral health are peppermint, orange, and clove. Combinations often found in traditional remedies utilize these oils heavily, with others added for synergy and added benefits. Here are some blends of the best oils to use for oral health:
  • Clove and lavender to battle canker sores – dilute 1 drop with 2 drops of a carrier oil and apply twice daily.
  • Peppermint to temper halitosis – add 1 drop with toothpaste, and gargle with peppermint infused water daily.
  • Clove and orange to soothe sensitive teeth – apply 1 drop each neat (straight) on affected tooth and gums.
  • Cinnamon, clove, eucalyptus, rosemary, and orange to whiten teeth – add 1 drop of either oil with toothpaste.
  • Lavender to relieve blood blisters – dilute 1 drop with 2 drops of a carrier oil and apply twice daily.
  • Blend your favorite oils to fight plaque, ward off infections and make the most of their antimicrobial effects!
To TRY -- DIY Essential Oil Toothpaste Recipe
  • Equal parts baking soda and coconut oil (1/4 c each is good to start with)
  • 1-2 tsp sea salt
  • 5-7 drops essential oils
  • optional: 1-2 tsp each stevia or bentonite clay (I will use xylitol if I have it)
Mix and place in a small jar or a squeeze bottle. Use a spoon or disposable wooden scoop to get the paste out and avoid contamination.

Simple and Natural Toothpaste

Brushing twice-a-day, this recipe lasts about a month.
Ingredients:
  • 2 Tablespoons Raw cacao powder (promotes remineralization) Or Calcium Carbonate Powder
  • 3 Tablespoons Baking soda (it is alkaline, helps balance pH in the mouth)
  • 2 Tablespoons Xylitol Powder (natural sweetener, reduces cavity-causing bacteria, more is not better with this ingredient. If it is too sweet or if you get sweet cravings, reduce the amount.)
  • 2 to 3 Tablespoons Coconut oil (naturally prevents candida in the mouth, boosts the microbiome in your gut)
  • 15-20 drops Essential oils for flavor (cinnamon, orange, or peppermint) This is optional, but it does add to the taste. I tend to like the peppermint.
How to make it:
  1. Melt or slightly soften the coconut oil.
  2. Measure the dry ingredients into a glass measuring cup.
  3. Pour the coconut oil into the dry ingredients, and stir. Mix the ingredients really well. It should be the consistency of cookie dough, or if you prefer, cake batter.
  4. Put the mixture in a small glass jar to store.
To use: Dip your toothbrush and scrape a small amount onto the bristles.

Tooth Powder
Trying this on July 25, 2018

  • 2 tablespoons bentonite clay (I did 1)
  • 2 tablespoons baking soda  (I did 1)
  • 1 tablespoon dried, finely ground sage leaf  (I did not use)
  • 1 tablespoon xylitol  (I did 1/2)
  • ½ tablespoon pure sea salt  (I did 1/4)
  • 15-20 drops peppermint essential oil (I did 20, combination of peppermint, clove, sweet orange)
Combine dry ingredients in a bowl and mix thoroughly with a non-metal spoon. Drip essential oils into the mixture and stir well to combine. Transfer to a small container or jar with a tight fitting lid. Particles of the tooth powder are fine enough that a small squirt bottle like this can also be used (as long as you don’t get the squirt-tip wet, which will cause clogging). Note: Bentonite clay loses its beneficial properties when it comes into contact with metal, so it’s best to use plastic or glass when mixing and storing your tooth powder.
To use: Wet your toothbrush in hot water and dip it into your homemade powder. And BRUSH! Rinse with cool water. The powder can be used daily and is good for kids and adults.
