Chocolate Party Pie

So here's the story on this pie. My sister, Sandy, brought the recipe home from her home economics class. She and Mom made these 2 BIG pies and then sat down to eat a piece. One piece led to another, and then another, and, you get the picture. They ate BOTH of them!

1/2 C cocoa
6 TB butter
2/3 C flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 1/4 C sugar
2 tsp vanilla
4 C milk 6 or 7 eggs (save 4 whites for meringue)

Mix cocoa, sugar, flour, salt and milk in heavy saucepan; add beaten eggs and milk and blend well.
Place over medium heat. Stir constantly until thickened. (A friend later told me that it had to boil pretty good to get it thick enough.)
Remove from heat. Blend in butter and vanilla. Cool.
Pour into pie crust.
Beat egg whites, adding 2 TB sugar to each white. Add one tsp vanilla.
Put meringue on pie and brown in oven at 350 degrees.

I have used the Betty Crocker meringue recipe.

3 egg whites, 1/4 tsp cream of tarter, beat this till foamy

Add 1 Tb at a time, 6 Tb sugar, beat till stiff and glossy

Put on pie, bake 400 degrees for 8 min or so.
From my mom and sister, Velma Daulton and Sandra Shorb.
